At Mondelēz International, cocoa is an ingredient key to our business. Securing a resilient long-term supply of cocoa is therefore a priority so our consumers can continue to enjoy our much-loved chocolate brands.
The Cocoa Life program is Mondelēz International’s cocoa sourcing program. We launched the Cocoa Life program more than a decade ago, taking an integrated approach that supports cocoa-farming communities and promotes responsible cocoa sourcing through activities focused on farming practices, community development and farmer livelihoods.
Today, 100% of the cocoa volume for our chocolate business is sourced through the Cocoa Life program. This indicator reflects the percentage of total chocolate category finished goods volume sold as Cocoa Life program sourced, on a mass balance basis. The cross-functional Mondelēz International team works alongside program partners, and farmers in the Cocoa Life program.
The Cocoa Life program focuses its efforts on three key areas where it can help address systemic challenges faced across the cocoa sector:
Help grow more profitable cocoa farming businesses for communities to increase the number of farming households reaching a living income. We work with NGOs, suppliers, governments and other partners both in and beyond the cocoa sector to help improve farming household livelihoods.
In 2025, the Cocoa Life program included more than 2,700 active communities and 257,000 registered farmers across our key cocoa-sourcing origins, including Brazil, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Indonesia and Nigeria.
“Active communities” represents community members participating in Cocoa Life program community activities; “registered farmers” represents farmers in receipt of Cocoa Life program farming activities.
Help support cocoa communities, enhance child protection systems and improve access to quality education. We engage in monitoring to help identify cases of child labor and children at risk with a goal for them to be able to receive support and remediation through community-based Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS).
CLMRS aims to (i) identify the number of children in or at risk of child labor; (ii) remediate for children identified as vulnerable and families identified as at risk of child labor; and (iii) follow-up and monitoring of children who have received support.
We expanded the coverage of CLMRS to reach 100% of Cocoa Life program communities in West Africa, including Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria by the end of 2025. Through the CLMRS, 337,000 interviews were conducted in Cocoa Life program registered communities.
CLMRS interviews considered for this goal scope were performed during the last 2 years (from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2025). The CLMRS interviews are conducted either with the head of the household or children in the household, or through follow-up interviews on previously registered cases.
Help protect and restore forests and seek no deforestation on Cocoa Life program registered farms. We support registered farmers with tree-planting activities, agroforestry techniques, such as the use of shade tree planting, trees pruning, integrating non-cocoa tree species, and farm mapping technologies.
In 2025, we were able to map and monitor 304,000 Cocoa Life program registered farms across Brazil, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Indonesia, and Nigeria.
Our experience of implementing the Cocoa Life program in diverse geographies for more than a decade has underscored the reality that changing systems takes time and requires ambitious collaboration that prioritizes the needs of cocoa farmers and their communities.
As we operate against a backdrop of market conditions that have driven cocoa price volatility, we continue to welcome collaboration with governments in cocoa producing countries with the aim to help continuously improve farmer incomes.
We encourage others in the cocoa sector and beyond to embrace ambitious public-private partnerships and innovative collaborations that center on the needs of farmers and integrate responsible sourcing processes into end-to-end business practices.
Mondelēz International’s Cocoa Life program is active in eight cocoa-producing countries: Brazil, Ecuador, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, India and Indonesia. Participating farmers are registered with the program but remain independent and are not employed by Mondelēz International or any affiliated entity. Participating farmers are not limited to supplying cocoa to Mondelēz International.
Cocoa sourced through the Cocoa Life program is used in products across a number of Mondelez International chocolate brands, including Cadbury Dairy Milk, Milka, Côte d’Or, Toblerone, Freia, Marabou, Daim, and Suchard.
